My connection to this civilization and my indigenous lineage is strong but there are questions that I am still answering. I am aware of the privilege that I possess within the academic institutional structure and the opportunity to explore and research sites. The discoveries I have made are very precious to me and each discovery about my identity or the issues within the context of my research allows me to expand my circle of knowledge, continue to answer questions, but more importantly continue to ask and reflect upon where I belong in this vast expansive realm.
My symbolic summoning of two Mayan Goddesses is an offering of healing to the families of the border femicide victims. It is born of these crimes' impotence, injustice, and n heinous nature of these crimes.

This work revolves around the symbology of a rocking chair. In Mexican culture, the empty chair is a symbol for absence and is often the subject of songs and poems. This experimental video pays tribute to a collective “Border Woman” : mothers, daughters, families who continue to seek justice for the victims of the Juarez border femicides. Their trauma inhabits the empty chair where ironically survivors can never be at rest.
